Apostle Veryl Howard

Dear readers, I would like to touch on a topic that is so prevalent in today’s society. We don’t know who we can trust with our most intimate issues or who really has our back. If you are old enough to understand betrayal, you can identify with its sting. Many of us have been betrayed by friends, spouses, children, neighbors, co-workers, family and sad enough “church folks”. We have shared our visions, dreams, purpose, emotions, faults and more only to be stepped on and crushed from the spirit of betrayal. We have had our character attacked, gifts unappreciated, been devalued only to be sold out by someone we allowed in our inner space. Well people of God welcome to “Club Jesus”. If he was the ultimate person who experienced betrayal it is just a matter of time before this bug will bite you. But the key is how do you respond to the deceiver? Many of them have been placed in your life to push you to your destiny if you don’t allow them to distract you. They don’t know that they are being used by Satan as a liar only for you to benefit from their attack.

Case in point, the bible tells us that one of the twelve disciples Judas Iscariot, who walked very closely with Jesus, looked for an opportunity to sale Jesus out. Now like many who walk close with you, Judas knew intimate ways and thoughts of Jesus. He was part of his inner circle, yet there ultimately to have Jesus killed. There are people in your midst who want you dead yet they will seal the deal with giving you a kiss. They will love on you, exalt you even pretend to be praying for you. But deep down inside there is a spirit of jealousy and sabatogement assigned to distract you from your purpose. Judas kissed Jesus as a sign of brotherly love and salutation yet is was used to set Jesus up.
Judas thought his greed would hinder what Jesus was sent to do. However, it catapulted Jesus into his purpose. Now the bible says your enemy has become your footstool. An apostle friend of mine Tarshia McGinney of Armed with Forces Ministry in Mobile, Alabama, reminded me that we will either trip over the foot stools or step up and walk over them. The footstool is around you to make you trip and get out of position. Jesus never got out of position. He recognized that the footstool of Judas meant elevation. He looked at the betrayer as a reminder that I am about to be uplifted into my purpose. Jesus was able to discern who was in his midst. Are you able to identify who is sent to betray you? Are you tapped into the spirit where you allow God to speak to you about your so called acquaintances? When we are spiritually led we are not discombobulated when the betrayer attacks.

Jesus even told the disciples that one of them was going to betray him in John 13:21 NIV which reads “After he had said this, Jesus was troubled in spirit and testified, “Very truly I tell you, one of you is going to betray me.” .When we are able to identify the culprit we are able to respond accordingly. Jesus still broke bread and ate with the very person who was ready to have him killed. He knew he had to die to be resurrected. But when he spoke against this spirit, the spirit identified itself. Let’s see Matthew 26:25 NIV. “Then Judas, the one who would betray him, said, “Surely you don’t mean me, Rabbi?” Jesus answered, “You have said so.” Judas asked is it I? In addition he never addressed Jesus as Jesus but Rabbi. Pastors and leaders watch those who have a problem addressing you as whom God called you to be for the edification of the church. They are the same ones who really have a problem with leadership authority. They just may be the betrayer.

The spirit of deception must expose itself upon the words of Jesus. Jesus never cussed him out, tried to be vindictive, fought him or rejected him and his purpose. Jesus still had compassion knowing he was a trader because the enemy wanted Jesus to lose his positioning in his disposition. Many of us have become ungodly when betrayed. We want to fight back in the natural as the world would and almost kill the person. Sit back and just watch God kill and flip the mission of your enemy so you can have victory!

The enemy showed up right at the point of Passover signifying the blood of the lamb. The people had been reminded that despite what Jesus knew would happen, they were covered in the blood. In this hour, the enemy has loosed a spirit of betrayal among the body of Christ. You just don’t know who you can trust anymore. You help a sister or brother out and in the next breathe they are stabbing you in the back. You love on your spouse and find out they are cheating on you right in the church. You have given your heart to people only to be abused and devalued. You want to now stop trusting and go in a cocoon. You share an issue at home with the worship leader and before you know it the whole church knows your business. Pastors and leaders go the mile for their congregation and those same members are used by the devil to try to break up the church.

The bible says in John 13:27 NIV “As soon as Judas took the bread, Satan entered into him. So Jesus told him, “What you are about to do, do quickly.” Judas was being used by the devil like many of us have even been used to be the betrayer. Jesus told him to expedite his work because Jesus knew it was needed to fulfill Jesus purpose. Have you ever felt that that person around you really did not have your best interest though they had not committed the crime yet? You knew it was just a matter of time so you watched them though they thought they had the upper hand. That was the Holy Spirit identifying your enemy.

Recognize when you are being used and when that spirit is trying to get you off your purpose. By all means know that when it shows up at your door, it must be time for your elevation. Don’t give the person a piece of your mind, or become disruptive getting off your purpose. Allow God to expose them and the betrayer will hang himself in his assignment. I beseech you to start praying now for your betrayer knowing they are in your inner circle. Break bread with them but get prepared for your victory. Jesus said in John 13: 18 NIV version “I am not referring to all of you; I know those I have chosen. But this is to fulfill this passage of Scripture: ‘He who shared my bread has turned[a] against me.” Know your enemy but stay in position, your breakthrough is on its way.
